the sanskrit word bhavana means “to call into existence | spiritual manifestation”. bhavana in motion is a movement modality, a way of living, an awakening to the potency of possibility. the practice itself is an amalgamation of three principal elements ~ tantra yoga, conscious dance, and shamanic ritual, interwoven with creative expression, meditation, breath, and the whisperings of deep silence. bhavana in motion is a weaving of these practices as a journey to the center where all movement begins, and where we learn to trust the body's organic wisdom.

the medicine wheel is a sacred hoop of energy that we create through intention and prayer. once the wheel is made manifest it is yours and yours alone, and it becomes a healing place where only you decide who and what you allow into it.

the focus of this practice is the building of the medicine wheel, and setting it in motion. we will begin by calling in the four directions through the tradition of angeles arrien's "the fourfold way" and move through a yoga practice that honors the shape of the mandala. from there we will slide into the pulse of the dance and explore how the edges of our hoops can overlap safely and intentionally to dissolve the edges between us that do not serve.

"in the old days all our power came to us from the sacred hoop
of the nation and so long as the hoop was unbroken the people
flourished. the flowering tree was the living center of the hoop,
and the circle of the four quarters nourished it. the east gave peace
and light, the south gave warmth, the west gave rain and the north
with its cold and mighty wind gave strength and endurance. this
knowledge came to us from the outer world with our religion.

everything the power of the world does is done in a circle.
the sky is round and i have heard that the earth is round like a ball
and so are all the stars. the wind, in its greatest power, whirls.
birds make their nests in circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours.
the sun comes forth and goes down again in a circle. the moon
does the same and both are round. even the seasons form a great
circle in their changing and always come back again to where they were.

the life of a man is a circle from childhood to childhood, and so it is
in everything where power moves."
